a journey through portals of growth and healing that exists between periods of re/birth.

about impending bloom

"Nothing remains as it was. If you know this, you can begin again, with pure joy in the uprooting." -- Judith Minty.

To be alive on this planet is to exist in a cycle of birth, death, and rebirth. When we bring new creations into the world, whether it be an idea, a child, or a new way of being, we too are reborn in the process. This can invite grief, joy, curiosity, and terror, among other things. When we embrace this cycle as a divine force in our lives and our worlds, we make way for possibilities that would not have been conceivable without it.

Whether the change you are welcoming is a new life or a new way of living, Impending Bloom will use the questions below to serve as our guide.

lotus 1.jpg

what can we learn from the planet about re/birth?

The waxing and waning of the moon, the snake shedding its skin, the lotus breaking through murky waters each morning. Mother Earth and the universe at large has gifted us with so many examples of what it means to live within the cycle of birth and death. When we tap into this gracious wisdom, we are reminded that we too are nature and that the answers we seek are within us.

how do we surrender to the tension of transformation?

In order for something new to be re/born from or within us, something else must die to make room. And even when we want to yield to our inevitable transformation, sometimes our attachment to what needs to be released gets in the way. By learning about our fear and our grief, we can begin the process of letting go of what no longer serves us and allowing the next version of ourselves to emerge.

what happens when we reclaim our humanity?

To be human is to also be Earthling, mammal, and innately divine. If we are to create a sacred space for re/birth to happen, we must first be reminded of our humanity and what that requires of us. By tapping into the parts of our humanity that have been stolen away from us by oppressive systems, we are able to access our core needs as well as the power of our own intuition.

how does our own re/birth make way for new worlds?

In their work around fractals, adrienne maree brown asserts that "how we are at the small scale is how we are at the large scale". This sentiment applies to re/birth and the work we do within our societies. When we learn what it means to birth new iterations of ourselves, we find that we have the tools necessary to birth our next world.

meet your doula

Khrysta Robinson (she/they) is a doula first and foremost. Their identity as a doula extends far beyond birthwork to include any process that wrestles with change and promises transformation, including but not limited to birth, grief, creation, and community building.

Khrysta views change as a portal and a doula as the portal keeper. She finds purpose in befriending change as a means to shepherd others through significant shifts, helping them to strengthen their intuition, nurture their personal power, build interdependent community, and connect more deeply to spirit.

Khrysta considers birthing people and families to be among her divine collaborators, whether their children are not yet conceived, are soon to be born, are newly arrived, or are no longer Earthside. As a birth worker and decades-long student of birth, Khrysta holds sacred space for birthing families as a labor and postpartum doula to help them more easefully and safely walk into the portal that is new parenthood and transition into their emerging parental identities.

As a coach, Khrysta works with her coaching partners to help them surrender to the tension of transformation so that they may tap into their sacred humanity, surrender to the portal that awaits them, and give birth to their emerging selves.

Khrysta lives and practices on unseeded Tongva land (also known as Los Angeles, CA).
